Hi! I’m Eve. I participated in Future Leaders as a percussionist as part of the first cohort in 2014. I was 14 then, coming from a fantastic community samba band in Liverpool called Beatlife. The significance of having been at Future Leaders has always been changing for me ever since; I definitely gained a lot of confidence and curiosity from the get-go, as well as a great network of cool creatives which led me to playing drums all over the UK, and even at a festival in Norway. I became really keen to learn more about Brazilian music and culture, so much so that I’m now studying Portuguese at the University of Cambridge. Over the years, I’ve been playing in bands, singing in classical choirs and writing music for short films and theatre. I’m also the co-founder of @wherearethegirlbands, a project that celebrates and promotes women creatives in Liverpool and works at making the music scene more diverse and accessible, hosting events, workshops and open discussions. Since my time at Cambridge, I’ve also been hosting live music events at local venues to help diversify the scene there- I’ve also been given funding to start up the University Samba Band, which should be getting off the ground when I return from Lisbon!
