Hey there, my name is Anreé and I’m a saxophonist, pianist, and recorder player!
I was part of the 2021/2022 cohort of Future Leaders, the very first cohort to include brass and reed instruments in the course!
Before Future Leaders, I had never so much as thought about playing carnival music of any kind; however, after participating, a whole new world of music was opened up to me. I gained knowledge, experience, met some amazing people, learnt new skills, new styles of music and new ways of approaching music that I never before so much as thought about.
We covered genres such as samba, capoeira, ciranda, Cuban music, West African rhythms and melodies, and Bollywood Brass! All these were completely new to me and as someone who is extremely interested in writing and composing music, the more I know how to use, the more I can write!
I didn’t just take away new skills in music and new friends and connections, I also gained valuable insight into leadership and how courses like these are organized, something which I have already used since taking part in Future Leaders when collaborating with others.
Future Leaders has given me the confidence to take my passion, and pursue a career in music, as I’ve realised there are more ways to be involved in music then I previously imagined.
